About us
Overview
The American Grappling Championship (AGC) is a pioneering grappling promotion dedicated to making grappling exciting and engaging for all audiences. Unlike existing promotions that are overly complex and cater primarily to insiders, AGC delivers high-energy, story-driven events that blend the technical mastery of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the athletic intensity of American Folkstyle Wrestling.
Interest in grappling and martial arts is rapidly expanding through promotions like UFC BJJ, CJI, ADCC and Fight 2 Win. Yet, the sport of Grappling remains largely misunderstood by casual viewers. AGC fills this gap by delivering a spectator-friendly experience that celebrates the culture of grappling while broadening its mainstream appeal. The culture of jiu-jitsu is changing and the era of the American style of Grappling is on the rise.
Our mission
To revolutionize Grappling by making it simple, exciting, and relatable for everyone.
What is Grappling?
Grappling is a style of combat sport focused on control, balance, and technique instead of full-contact punching or kicking. Two competitors try to gain dominant positions using holds, grips, and body movement, with the goal of taking their opponent to the ground, controlling them, and possibly forcing a submission using joint locks or chokes. It looks a bit like wrestling mixed with jiu-jitsu and judo — athletes are constantly moving, defending, and trying to out-think each other. Because there’s no striking, grappling is highly technical, strategic, and emphasizes safety, respect, and sportsmanship while still being incredibly intense and exciting to watch.
AGC's Approach to Grappling
The AGC is built around a simple slogan: Takedown. Pass. Submit. These three objectives form the core of our ruleset and shape every match. We prioritize standing grappling while still showcasing the best aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on the ground. To keep the pace fast and exciting, we use specific stalling rules designed to discourage inactivity and reward athletes who are constantly working to improve their position. Many of these concepts come from proven combat sports such as Folkstyle Wrestling and Judo. Our goal is to create a format that is not only entertaining for spectators, but also more realistic and transferable to an MMA environment.
